After a long day, I was looking forward to going home and spending time with Katelyn since she is home on Christmas break from college.
Katelyn and I had several deliveries to do yesterday. We had planned to take this week off, but there were several families that needed our help.
We pulled up to our last stop, a motel. We knocked on the door and was greeted by a beautiful toothless smile of a 6-year-old little boy named Matthew. I have to admit his smile was contagious. His mom came to the door, and we delivered food and a heater to them. She thanked us over and over again. Matthew asked us if we wanted to play “Fish” with him. I have to admit, we had been at Angels all morning; then out for a good part of the day, delivering to families in need, fighting traffic, and I was so tired. I was dreaming of dinner and my spot on the couch with my dogs & kitties. But his big brown eyes drew me in. I told him of course! He instructed us to sit like a pretzel on the bed. He jumped up, criss-crossed his legs and started dealing out the cards. We stayed and played a round of go fish. Not one, not 2 but 4 rounds! I did win once lol! Halfway through Katelyn herself and went outside… after a bit, there was a knock at the door. Katelyn told Matthew to answer the door.
He swung the door open and a pizza delivery man was standing there. He turned around, jumped up and down and started to rub his belly. Out of the corner of my eye I could see the smile on his mom’s face. We all sat pretzel style and pigged out on pizza. His mom and I had a nice conversation. I could overhear Matthew telling Katelyn all about the current book he was reading, “Captain Underpants”. The two of them hit it off, as Katelyn is a little book nerd.
What a wonderful night after a hectic day…. Go Fish and Pizza!
Just when I thought I could not be prouder, I was!
