My mission of dropping my little girl off at college started off a little bumpy!
I woke up Wednesday with a feeling of excitement, thrilled, and enthusiasm…. Scratch that, I have a pit in my stomach! How can my little baby girl be ready for college. I looked in the mirror and told myself.. “Mom you did a good job, you raised a wonderful, caring young lady with a huge heart. She will be just fine! But then that little voice in my head started up her shenanigans! Did I teach her everything she needs to know, will she remember to lock her door, bring her key with her, and most importantly… Will she remember how to make mommy’s French Toast, as this is a Sunday ritual!
We packed the car the night before with everything this child should need, and then some. Only to be greeted in the morning with a smashed back window and empty car. Katelyn’s suitcases and everything she was taking to college was stolen, including her clothes, camera, textbooks all gone!
We had a little bumpy start, but we were not going to let that hold us back! The Disney geek in me just has to sing in my best Elsa voice… Let it go, let it go……
We ran around and Katelyn was able to pack a small bag of necessities and we got ready to board a plane to California. She will be attending a University in California, although we are not releasing the name due to past domestic violence.
Before we left, my sweet neighbor Lisa came over and asked what she could do. I thought to myself I can handle this… I have a shield of armor on. Sword in hand, I got this. But after talking to her for a bit, I reluctantly agreed to accept her help. She got right to work and set up a Go Fund Me account to help.
Most of you know my daughter Katelyn founded Angels of God www.angelsofgod.org
“Giving a hand UP to those in need”. Through her nonprofit organization she provides clothing, food, toiletries, and more to those in need. We’re so used to helping others, that this situation and the outpouring support has been so touching.
To the community: I am humbled by your kindness.
Thanks to your compassion, we will be able to replace Katelyn’s stolen items and get a new back window for our car. Any money left over Katelyn wants to donate back to her charity Angels of God and help area families in need.
To my daughters Lindsay and Brenna: I love you to the moon and back. You are my rock, the reason I fight so hard. Thank you for being such a big cheerleader for you sister Katelyn. I know it is not always easy listening to everyone talk about your sister’s accomplishments. She is able to achieve so much because she has your love and support. Together we are the four warriors. We have been through so much, but with each other’s love we always make it better. I know you are both dedicated to keeping Angels of God running when your sister is away. More kindness to spread.
To my second born, Katelyn: I love you so much it hurts! I love you a million Swedish Fish! Go spread kindness and share your giving heart with sunny California. My heart is ready to share you with the west coast 🙂
This is the moment… Spread your wings
Love you more,
